What takes place in an ASL Discoveries class?
When working with children, we focus on utilizing ASL through musical fun and/or vibration, creative activities and interactive games. This creates a basic foundation for communication development.
When working with adults, our goal is to bridge the gap between the Deaf and Hearing Culture. We teach basic and conversational skills so your staff can feel confident and when communicating with a Deaf individual.

Practice makes perfect a variety of factors influence fluency. Those factors include, but are not limited to- consistent classes, exposure to Deaf culture, attending Deaf events etc.

We require one caregiver per child for safety and participation purposes. Large groups are acceptable, but please be advised, choose your classes wisely.
Can I invite my friends and their children to watch a class?
Yes. If you have friends interested in attending classes, but are unsure, they are more than welcome to observe. Observing means they cannot participate and material will not be handed out to them. We take pride in preparation for the specific amount of children the host reports will be there. If they decide to join “last minute” a fee will apply.
Can I invite my friends and their children to watch a class/join a class “last minute”?
The hosting caregiver can have any group size, but please be advised ASL Discoveries MUST know how many caregivers and children will be attending 48 hours prior to class. Material is prepared for the specific amount the host reports will be attending. If the host adds caregivers/children on the day of class without consulting with ASL Discoveries, a fee will apply for the additional caregivers/children.
Can siblings and/or other caregivers participate as well?
ASL Discoveries ratio is one caregiver per child. This provides a more intimate bond with the child and caregiver. If a sibling wants to join then we recommend the Family Discoveries class (for family).
Can I leave my child alone with the instructors?
No. All classes MUST have adult supervision. It’s a great way to learn techniques on facilitating/enhancing communication and socialization development for all!
What if I don't want to use ASL during a class?
ASL is strongly advised, but if a parent requests no ASL we are very flexible and will respect the parents wishes.
